Getting Personal with the Personnel – Volume 3

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Insider Information

Meet Kayla- at just 34 years old, she is the youngest member of the Joden crew.  Recommended by another employee, she joined us three years ago and it’s been full speed ahead ever since.  In addition to taking care of customers, Kayla heads up our advertising department.  Working closely with Joe and Jay, she puts together our billboards and magazine ads.  Most recently, she tackled her largest project to date…  a new brochure.  Dubbing it her biggest accomplishment, Kayla has thoroughly enjoyed the process.  And what a process it is!  Every piece featured in our full-color double-sided brochure is hand-selected, professionally photographed, and edited.  Using an old-school “cut and paste” method, each of the eight pages is carefully assembled.  Just last week, Kayla and Bryan (Owner of GFX Advertising) put the final touches on this project.  We can’t wait to see it in print later this fall!

Very early on, Kayla discovered a love of authentic antique scarab jewelry.  These are not carved stones, but actual petrified beetles.  Captured in their natural form, these colorful creatures were often preserved by making them into jewelry.  The Joden inventory boasts more than one of these unusual pieces…  Kayla is shown here wearing a rare scarab fringe necklace and coordinating bracelet.  Each of the sixteen bugs in the necklace is fitted to a golden frame.  It provides strength to these otherwise delicate carcasses.  Priced at just $3,000.00 – customers love this unique find.  Recently, we acquired a similar bracelet… this simple line style bit of arm candy is set with eight scarabs, each one with closed back construction.  Made from 15-karat yellow gold, it’s available for $1,950.00.

If you’re as fascinated by scarab jewelry as Kayla is, these simple pendants are just a click away.  Originally part of a long necklace, each iridescent green beetle is nestled within a gold-filled frame.  We separated them and added a gold-filled chain.  Available in 16 or 18-inch lengths, these beauties are available on our site for just $185.00.

Although she loves the scarab jewelry, Kayla’s least favorite pieces are the Victorian hair jewelry.  Whether it be a mourning ring, brooch, necklace or bracelet…  these late 19th century finds feature actual human hair.  Mourning jewelry from the Victorian era honored loved ones that had passed on in a beautifully permanent way.  People either love these peculiar pieces or they’re creeped out by them…  Kayla falls into the latter category.

The pieces showcased here among the most unusual in our antique and estate department.  There are thousands of jewels from every era including Georgian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Art Deco, Retro, Mid-Century and Modern.  Discovering and learning about them is one of Kayla’s favorite parts of working at Joden.

Stop by our store, check out these unique finds and say “Hi!” to Kayla.  And if you’re feeling mischievous, flip off the lights…  Kayla is afraid of the dark!

Signature Series – Volume 3

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

At a glance, you might think this ring is ordinary…  just another halo-style ring.  Perhaps you would even dismiss it – it’s not for you.  You often choose jewelry that is extraordinary and unique.  You’re drawn to the uncommon and different; what could this typical piece possibly offer to a girl like you?

The short answer is a lot.  This deceptively simple ring is SO much more than meets the eye…  it’s top-notch on every level.  The metal isn’t 14-karat or even 18-karat white gold…  it’s platinum.  The density of this naturally occurring white metal ensures the longevity of the ring.  It is also resistant to tarnishing.  Unlike white gold, platinum never needs to be rhodium-plated (or “dipped”), but can be restored to a beautiful shine purely by polishing it.

Shown from behind, you can see that the ring is lovely from every angle, even the back features an appealing filigree pattern.  These sculpted openings are not only decorative, but also serve as clean-out holes for the gemstones.  To maintain the sparkle of a gem, you have to keep it clean.

The shoulders of the ring arch gently, creating the ideal angle for the center stone.  Fifty-five round brilliant diamonds are prong-set in this modern marvel.  They are perfectly matched in size and quality, a detail that might seem small but has an enormous impact on the complete presentation.  With a combined weight of .64 carat, these diamonds have an average color grade of D-E and an average clarity grade of VS 1-2.

A 2.03 carat unheated pear-shape pink sapphire is the crowning glory.  Accompanied by a certificate from the Gemological Institute of America, this gem is a rare find.  The medium purplish-pink hue of the stone was not enhanced or treated, but is actually completely natural.

A peek inside the shank reveals the designer…  Orianne.  Located in Los Angeles, this third-generation jeweler spent her childhood learning from her father and grandfather.  Inspired by her own life experience, Orianne believes that every woman deserves quality jewelry that was made to last.

“Orianne creates pieces simple enough to let you shine, while still serving as an accent for your daily adventures and aspirations – because classic never goes out of style.”

Evaluated by the American International Gemologists, this ring has an estimated retail value of $12,995.00.  At Joden, we’re offering this spectacular estate piece for just $4,500.00…  a deal that is just too good to pass up.

What’s New – Volume 39

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

It’s no secret that I love daisies…  they are my very favorite flower.  From the bold yellow center to the spray of bright white petals that fan out from it.  Silly as it sounds, daisies are indeed the friendliest flower.  Not only are they great on their own, they also pair well with other flowers.

Our latest find is simply too sweet to pass up.  Made from 18-karat gold, this brooch takes the form of  miniature bouquet of flowers.  Presenting a charming trio of one daisy, one pansy and a bachelor’s button  – the variegated shades of purple, yellow and white complement each other beautifully.

Made from 18-karat green gold, the stems of each blossom are intertwined.  Cleverly textured to look authentic and real, they are held together with a double loop of 18-karat rose gold ribbon.  The true beauty of the piece is captured in the multicolored enamel that brings each flower to life.  From the tiny pink line that runs down the center of each daisy petal to the blending of violet and golden hues on the pansy – this pin is Art Nouveau perfection.

A tiny Old Mine Cut diamond marks the center of each flower – much like the cherry on top of a sundae.  Moderately priced at $1,950.00, this brooch is the ideal way to have a touch of summer in your life every day of the year.
