You & Me

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Sweetest Diamond Ring

I can’t lie; it’s no secret that I have not been inspired to write about a 1920’s piece of jewelry in months.  When Joe tries to show me his latest Art Deco acquisition, I can feel my eyes begin to glaze over as his voice fades away.  It’s partially because the sheer volume of Deco jewelry that we have is astounding – a fact that makes it seem less rare, and somehow not as special.  When selecting a featured blog piece, it needs to jump out at me.  I want to feel something.  It can be a positive or a negative reaction, as long as there’s a connection.

For the first time in a long time, an Art Deco ring spoke to me.  It wasn’t a scream… more of a softly whispered “hello”.  Made from 18-karat white gold, this petite beauty is so sweet.  The top of the ring measures about half an inch across – it’s an elongated rectangle made from two individual squares with a beaded milgrain border.  Nestled side by side within the rectangle are a matched pair of European Cut diamonds.  These two gems have a combined weight of .85 carat.

Situated at 12, 3, 6, and 9:00 o’clock are four triangular blue stones.  Mimicking the look of natural sapphires, these gems are original and period-appropriate to the ring.  With points facing out, they add a hint of dimension and a pop of color to this otherwise monochromatic piece.  Like the center section, each triangle is rimmed with tiny beads of white gold.  Milgrain is a classic detail from the Art Deco era.  Additional 1920’s details include hand-carved flowers on the outer edges, delicate filigree finery, and lovely linear engraved patterns that extend down each shoulder.

This “toi et moi” charmer packs a punch in a series of small, quiet ways.  Comfortable and easy to wear, this dainty darling would be a perfect engagement ring.  Stack it with one or more of your favorite bands – the possibilities are endless.  Priced at $1,975.00, this ring is available in our 144 South Broad Street showroom.  Call or stop by to claim it today.

Contours and Curves

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Diamond Things

I’m not a bracelet girl.  Having an exceptionally small wrist often makes them uncomfortable for me.  On the rare occasion that I do clasp a bracelet around my arm, before long it will be discarded on my desk.  The inventory at Joden boasts hundreds of bracelets…  we have silver, yellow gold, white gold and platinum.  We have plain styles, diamond dazzlers, and colored gems of every variety.  They appeal to me on every level… except one.  Comfort.

Just last week, this unique bangle caught my eye.  It’s different; unique.  For the first time in a long time, I slipped it out of the plastic bag, searching for the clasp.  Unlike most bangles, this modern marvel has a small release button on the inside.  Nearly all hinged bangles have a clasp on the outside.  When pressed, the bottom half of the bracelet opens, allowing it to be put on.  Once closed, the button is nearly imperceptible.  The true magic of this piece is the gentle contour of the top half; it curves toward the wrist, laying beautifully in place… comfortably in place.

Made entirely of 14-karat white gold, the bangle is polished to a pristine shine.  Nestled in a narrow channel on the outermost edge are thirty-five round brilliant diamonds.  These tiny gems offer .75 carat of sparkle and shine.  This detail is subtle – secondary to the wonderfully contoured design.  It’s genius, really.  And while I cannot claim to be fully converted, this bangle renews my hope that someday I will find the ideal bracelet for me.  If this beauty is perfect for you, it’s available for $2,975.00.  Call or stop to make it yours.

Signature Series – Volume 24

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

With an undeniable chill in the crisp morning air, there’s no question that it’s fall in Pennsylvania.  It’s my favorite season – Friday night football, chili in the crockpot, and heavy, weighted blankets on my bed.  As much as I love all of those things, it’s the incredible colors of autumn that make my heart sing.  Leaves in every shade litter my patio and yard – deep crimson red, pumpkin orange and sunshine yellow.  Many of them already have dark brown edges – nature is a truly wonderous creation.  Those warm colors often find their way into our fall wardrobes and accessories… like jewelry.  Like a favorite cashmere sweater, we all have pieces with enduring style that we reach for again and again.

I use an old silverware case to house my jewelry…  the inside is covered in a soft brown felt; the box has small compartments that work perfectly for gems and jewels.  Among a heap of silver bangles and miscellaneous baubles are a handful of timeless classics- a strand of pearls, a great gold chain, and of course, a heart pendant.  Maybe it was a gift from your parents, or even an old boyfriend.  My son purchased mine at the Santa’s Secret Workshop when he was still in elementary school.  His tiny hands were small and chubby, his cheeks shone with an angelic glow and he still loved to snuggle with his mama.  The heart is gold-colored with a bright pink gemstone in the center.  I’ve had it for more than a decade, and I save it for special occasions.  I don’t want it to lose what’s left of the gold plating…  it’s a true treasure to me.

Recently we added this LeVian pendant to our estate department.  Measuring one inch from the top of the bail to the tip of the heart, it’s an ideal size.  It’s crafted from 14-karat rose gold and hangs from a twenty-inch adjustable chain.  A light tug on the small round tab allows you to wear the pendant at a shorter length…  a great feature.  The softly curved sides of the heart showcase a lovely sprinkling of diamond trim.  The lower left side has twenty-one nude diamonds and the upper right side has fifteen chocolate diamonds.  Combined, these sparklers have a total weight of .32 carat.

I love that the shades of this simple pendant blend beautifully with the colors of fall.  It is an excellent accessory and it’s available at an absolute steal-of-a-deal price.  This pendant sells new at well-known department stores for $725.00 – at Joden, it’s priced at just $550!  If you’ve been looking for a classic piece for your fall wardrobe, look no further.  Call or stop by to make it yours today.
