Every year for one week… eight magical days, I’m a beach girl. As soon as the Atlantic comes into view, we turn off the air-conditioning and all the windows go down; the seagulls welcome us with a beautiful huoh-huoh – the air is heavy with the salty, pungent scent of the ocean. I love the feeling of my toes pushing into the warm sand, the hot summer sun burns my skin to a glorious shade of pink, and the salt from the ocean combines with the sea air to dry my hair into a tangled web of knotted frizz. Standing at the edge of the water… the waves flow over my perfectly manicured toes and ebb back out carrying bits of shells and tiny pebbles with every turn. And for each of those eight days, my heart sings and my soul is at peace.
