Joden Girl
Baubles, Bling and Endless Things
It’s Valentine’s Day. While it is one of my favorite holidays, that seems to be quite an unpopular opinion. This year, I have heard countless people grumbling about how much fresh flowers cost versus how long they last. Depending on where you live, on Valentine’s Day, a dozen roses will likely cost you a couple hundred bucks. And just a few short days later, they’re drooping over the side of the vase, dripping petals on the counter. Another popular thing to do for Valentine’s Day is going out for dinner; restaurants are also pricey and leave you with nothing to show for it except maybe an extra pound or two. Don’t even get me started on candies and chocolates…
Jewelry is a gift that lasts. If you buy a piece of quality jewelry, it can last your lifetime and beyond; it’s an heirloom. This charming brooch caught my eye from the very first time I saw it. Dainty and sweet, it offers a kaleidoscope of spring bounty, both in color and variety. Eight individual flowers have been carved from a wide range of genuine gemstones. Starting at the top, we have rock crystal, amethyst, dyed blue chalcedony, aventurine quartz, dyed green chalcedony and pink tourmaline. Each one has been artfully fully sculpted, highlighting the curves, contours and scalloped edges of each petal.
Prong set in the center of each flower is a prong-set gemstone in an assortment of color. Perhaps my favorite detail is the tiny ladybug in the center. The enameled wings, this little friend is the color of sunshine. Eight precise black spots can be seen on the bold yellow wings. Ladybug’s spots are not for decoration, they’re actually part of their defense mechanism. They warn predators that ladybugs taste bad and not to eat them! Such a clever little bug.
The framework of the brooch is made from 18-karat white gold. Each flower stem connects to fluted cup on the back of each blossom. Exuding whimsical cheer, these brightly colored buds spin! Just a little nudge with your finger moves the flowers back and forth. This wildflower bouquet has been tied together with an 18-karat white gold bow. Four tiny diamonds add a hint of sparkle to the bow. The catch is hinged and offers not one, but two pin stems allowing for stability.
Brooches are back in a big way for 2025, and this one is the perfect way to start your collection. Priced at $3,625.00 – these flowers will never wilt. Their bright colors will never fade. It will last forever, allowing you to hand it down from generation to generation. Not yet on our website, it’s available in the estate department of our showroom.
