Asymmetrical Allure

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Uneven Things

Boom!  This word is often used to describe a post-war period.  At the end of WWII, the American economy was thriving.  In fact, the years between 1945-1960 would later become known as the “Golden Age of Capitalism”.  It was a time marked by economic prosperity.  Unemployment was low and wages were high.  Americans had money to spend on everything from houses in suburbia to fine jewelry.

In the midst of televisions, fast food restaurants and family cars, there were also strands of pearls and cocktail rings.  The style of the 1950’s was more refined than the previous Retro era.  Bracelets and button earrings were staples for day wear while diamond jewelry was all the rage for evening.

This asymmetrical beauty showcases all the earmarks of the period.  Made from crisp 14-karat white gold, the off-kilter appearance encompasses a pierced motif accented by a milgrain border.  Resembling a sophisticated spoon ring, the tapered band wraps around the finger, juxtaposing the narrow high-polish plain side with the wide diamond accentuated side.

The ideal adornment for the feminine, curvaceous fashion of the fabulous 1950’s – this ring dazzles at every turn.  Sixteen diamonds that include both round brilliant and single cut decorate the widest portion of the ring.  With a combined weight of .50 carat, this charmer was almost certainly saved for evening wear – however, times have changed.  Today, the ring could easily adapt to daily wear.  The price is almost as attractive as the ring…  hop over to our website and make it yours for only $975.00.

What’s One More?

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and a Perfect Ring

I am going to be brutally honest.  Sometimes the pieces of jewelry run together, one after the other.  It’s a seemingly endless array of platinum diamond rings, gold chains, colored stone earrings…  the list goes on.  Our inventory is vast, boasting thousands of items from the simple to the sublime.  After twenty years of jewelry, it takes something special to catch my eye.  On more than one occasion, I have commented that I just cannot write about another platinum diamond ring.

Without a doubt, those very things…  sweet little vintage diamond rings get more comments than anything else we post on Facebook or Instagram.  Our followers are gaga for a platinum setting glittering from top to bottom with diamonds.  You love them all…  from Edwardian to Art Deco and even Mid Century Modern.  So, when this dainty darling found it’s way to my desk, I couldn’t resist.  After all, what’s one more?

Made during the 1950’s, this beauty focuses on a modern cut round diamond that weighs approximately .60 carat.  This stone is near colorless (G, to be precise) with a clarity grade of VS.  It’s set with angular L-shaped prongs in the corners that give the stone a squarish appearance.  Keeping the geometric theme, three straight baguette cut diamonds are channel set on each side of the center.  These six diamonds have a combined weight of .18 carat.  Eighteen round diamonds create upper and lower borders on this Mid Century ring, adding another .18 carat of bling.  Made entirely of platinum, this ring is priced at $2,980.00 and is available now on joden.com…  just in time for the holidays!

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 133

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Primitive.  That word accurately describes this ultra cool ring from Joe’s Special Box.  Likely handmade, this ring features closed back construction…  a characteristic that was prevalent in the Georgian era.  Decidedly vintage, this ring isn’t Georgian.  It’s more likely that this beauty is from the 1950’s.

Made from 10 karat rosy gold, the ring centers on a small oval red stone.  Not a natural gem, this stone is surrounded by two rows of irregularly shaped pearls.  These pearls, exhibiting gray overtones, are strung on wire.  The ends of the wire have been carefully threaded through the back of the ring and secured in place.  Due to the concave shape of the piece, the wires do not present any discomfort when the ring is worn.

This side view showcases all of my favorite details of the ring…

  • The perfectly jagged lip at the top.  The rim of the ring is not softly scalloped, but rather spiked and serrated.
  • Set in a tiny pinched collet on each side is a small round blue turquoise.  I love the contrast of the bright blue against the coppery colored gold.
  • Featuring unique open patterns, the shank of this ring is unlike any other – including the unusual textured edge and faint remnants of an old hallmark.

This look is a rare find in Joe’s Special Box – it’s a departure.  It’s not a ring that I would describe as pretty… it’s striking.  Priced at $550 – this is not a piece for everyone.  But if it’s for you, don’t hesitate.  It won’t last long.
