What’s New – Volume 36

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

From one elegant tip to the other, this ring is alive with an abundance of minute details…  each one adding another dimension to this lovely confection.  Constructed entirely of platinum near the end of the Art Deco era, this 1930’s beauty is sculpted and refined.  It’s elongated, but not in the typical navette shape – this unique charmer takes the form of a rectangle with the longest side following the line of the finger.  Each corner nips in like something took a bite out of it creating eight sides instead of just four.

Mimicking the shape of those curved corners are a pair of arched lines – one on the top right side and the other on the bottom left.  These strong contours combine with a wide milgrain-edged border to form the perimeter of the pattern.  A series of three marquise shapes fill the center, each one set at a jaunty angle and stacked in a straight line.  Connecting each of these elements are thirteen horizontal bars, much like the lines on a piece of composition paper.

Accenting the tips of the marquises are four bezel set round diamonds.  There are a total of twenty-three diamonds decorating this vintage ring – they offer a combined weight of .90 carat that dazzle from every angle.  The shoulders of the ring don’t have any diamonds, but are no less decorative than the top.  Taking the form of an elongated kite, each side features tiny beaded edges and lovely engraved patterns.  A small opening in the center copies the exact outline and completes the look.  Detail after detail, this ring is a true stunner.  This fresh find is available on our website for just $1,375.00!

What’s New – Volume 30

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

At first glance, jewelry can often appear to be simple – straightforward.  But with the help of a loupe and a trained eye, we can begin to appreciate each detail.  Recently we acquired a real Art Deco stunner.  Like most pieces from the era, this vision is made entirely of platinum.  The shank of the ring is narrow and delicate…  at the shoulder, it forks into three fingers.  The outer two are basic clean lines but the center one is an artfully tapered leaf-like form.  It flares out at the top and then comes back to a point.  This elegant element is duplicated on the other side.

Those six fingers cradle the center component – two diamond squares.  The outer equilateral figure is filled with twelve round diamonds that have a combined weight of approximately .50 carat.  They form a border for a single center diamond.  This square emerald cut sparkler weighs approximately .70 carat and is set within a milgrain-edged border.  The appeal of a step-cut diamond is different than that of a brilliant-cut stone.  Step-cuts offer an enchanting sophisticated charm.  The two outlines that encase the twelve round diamonds also feature the same beaded edge.  Milgrain is a classic detail that was very prominent in the Art Deco period.  There is a perfectly symmetrical gap between the center stone and the halo that surrounds it.  This seemingly irrelevant detail is my favorite part of the ring.  The space between the inner and outer squares accentuates the crisp, clean refinement of the center stone.

The ring is striking on the hand.  It’s in superb original condition considering it was made in the 1930’s.  Soon to be a featured piece on our site, this estate ring is available now for $4,900.00.

What’s New – Volume 17

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

I’m a sucker for a great sapphire ring.  I love the deep, hypnotic blue hue and can’t help but be drawn in.  Believed to calm the mind, slow the heart rate and reduce anxiety, the color blue is both powerful and serene.  Made in the Art Deco era, this latest find at Joden is too good to miss.

The style of this ring is unique – the classic round shape doesn’t completely close.  Made entirely of platinum, the two halves are channel set with a series of straight baguette diamonds.  There are twenty-six stones that offer 1.20 carats of polished panache.  Forming a bridge that brings these two sides together are five bold blue sapphires.  Nestled inside platinum borders, these square stones have a combined weight of 1.50 carats.

I love the smooth, clean lines of this 1920’s gem.  The style is elevated and refined yet simple enough to wear every day.  The contrast of the bright sapphire center with the colorless diamonds that surround it is visually appealing and so very Art Deco.  Available on our website for $3,500.00 – these are the kind of blues that I wouldn’t mind having!
