What’s New – Volume 70

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

I love tiny treasures.  Dana and I squeal with delight when we stumble across a super sweet little bauble.  It’s awe-inspiring that someone was able to create these miniature pieces of perfection – they’re almost always vintage.  Modern new jewelry isn’t nearly as cool as the old stuff.

Earrings from the early 20th century are an unusual find.  Due to the fascination with the bob hairstyle, earlobes were often hidden – a fact that rendered earrings unnecessary.  Because the demand decreased, jewelers shied away from earrings and concentrated their efforts on more profitable choices.  Now, more than 100 years later, the few Edwardian and Art Deco earrings that were made are highly sought after.

When these petite darlings came in the mail, Dana and I grabbed them.  Even from within the worn plastic bag, we knew they were special.  Who could resist a delicate sapphire and diamond earring?  Definitely not us!  When I read the description provided, I was shocked to read these words…

“Silver, Yellow Gold and Foil-backed Glass Dangle Earrings”

They’re made from a lovely combination of 10-karat yellow gold and silver…  but the stones aren’t real!  Each of the eighteen colorless gems is a foilback.  This old-world technique involves applying a thin sheet of foil with a metallic sheen to the back of a stone to make it appear more brilliant.  Most often, this type of stone is set in a closed back collet, a setting that conceals and protects the foil.  The light blue centers resemble sapphires, but are also glass.

Authentic and original, these earrings are perfectly sized and look great on the ear.  The leverback style ensures ease of use in addition to the delightful vintage vibe.  Because they aren’t genuine gemstones, they’re a steal of a deal at just $325.00.  If you love them, DO NOT hesitate!  They won’t last long… click over to our website or give us a call to make them yours today.

What’s New – Volume 31

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

Made at the end of the Edwardian era, these dangly earrings are just too good!  Perfectly sized and beautifully designed, they are made from an unbeatable combination of platinum and 14-karat yellow gold.

Beginning with two dainty bezel-set old cut diamonds then flaring out with two uniquely shaped links, the overall form of the earring is elegant and refined.  Each one culminates with a scalloped-edge floret.

Made in three distinct sections, these floral links center on a matched pair of Old Mine Cut diamonds that have a total weight of .40 carat.  Encircling those diamonds are a halo of deep red calibré-cut rubies.  Well-matched in both size and color these gems have a combined weight of approximately .80 carat.  Forming that scalloped petal edge are sixteen additional old cut diamonds; added to the twenty-diamonds set in the remainder of the earring – the forty stones have a total weight of .80 carat.

Still ensconced in their original leather box, these beauties are authentic and original, moderately priced at just $3,675.00.  This could just be my favorite fresh find yet!

Pick of the Week – Volume 27

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

It’s Conversion Week at Joden Jewelers!  We are celebrating the fine art of breathing new life into a beautiful but under-utilized piece of jewelry.  There’s no question that lifestyles and clothing trends have undergone significant change in the past 200 years.  Jewelry is often just as much about function as it is fashion.  Brooches, which were very popular in the Victorian era, were frequently used to fasten articles of clothing and hold multiple layers together.  But now, in today’s world, fabrics are light and airy and styles are held together with modern fasteners which have rendered brooches almost obsolete.  For the past few years, we have been converting pins and brooches into necklaces with great success.

Another abandoned article of jewelry is the cuff link.  Once a must for the well-dressed businessman, these decorative gems are rarely worn anymore.  Because cuff links come in pairs, it’s only logical to convert them into earrings!

These platinum and 14 karat yellow gold conversion earrings were made from a lovely pair of Edwardian cuff links.  Shown in profile, you can see how a thin layer of platinum covers the yellow gold base.  Ornate botanical engraving is highlighted in the center of each disk.  Surrounding that is a black enameled halo featuring geometric patterns.

A tiny golden link has been lasered onto the top of the disk allowing an ear wire to slide through.  Because they aren’t soldered solid, the earrings have great movement, creating another element of visual interest.  You’re sure to dazzle in your Zoom meetings with these one-of-a-kind beauties.

Previously available on our site for $1,100 – we have selected them as our Pick of the Week.  Now, just in time for the holidays, these Edwardian conversions have been price reduced to just $820.00!  Tuck them into your stocking today!
