Antique Re-Imagined

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Upcycled Things

I’m not a trendy girl.  My mailbox is not filled with fashion magazines nor do I follow celebrity blogs to see what they’re wearing.  I have an eye for beauty.  I know what good looks like.  Occasionally the hottest trends and my personal tastes mesh.  When the bar necklace craze finally reached Grove City about three years ago, I knew it wasn’t going to be a passing fancy, it was a new classic.

When I approached Joe about converting some of our pins into necklaces, he was skeptical, to say the least.  But I twisted his arm.  And now, there’s no question, they are some of our most popular items. The tiny ones made from lingerie pins and the longer ones made from bar pins… these delicate beauties have definitely created quite a stir!

This delicious necklace is the latest one to come out of our shop.  It began its life as an elongated bow-tie shaped pin.  Fashioned in the early 1900s in classic Edwardian style, it’s the epitome of simple elegance.  The “knot” in the middle is a double-edged square turned on its side with an Old European cut diamond winking from the center.  The loops or wings of the bow tie are carefully crafted using a heavily engraved outer framework and an entwined wire inside.  A small pair of bezel set blue sapphires to add a hint of color.  It’s moderately priced at $950.00.

As a pin, it could have been in our inventory for years.  Instead, we re-imagined it!  By removing the pin stem, and adding two tiny rings and a cable chain, it has become new again.  The marriage of modern style and antique craftsmanship will last a lifetime.  If you too have an eye for style, come to Joden where the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 31

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Vintage diamond engagement rings are always in demand at Joden.  One of the things we hear most often is “I don’t want a ring that looks like everyone else’s.”  Our customers crave uniqueness and individuality.  Pieces made during the Edwardian and Art Deco periods offer just that…  quality with distinction, real style.  Often times, these little beauties never make it past Joe’s Special Box.  He scoops them up because he also knows their value and rarity.  It’s becoming more and more difficult to find these rings.

Earlier this week, I found this gem tucked into a tray of new purchases in Joe’s office.  Coincidentally, this is exactly how I stumbled upon my own engagement ring nearly twenty years ago.  It was just laying on a tray in the office…  waiting for me.  After all these years, I love my ring just as much as I did the day I got it.  Here’s my ring and wedding band…  and also another picture of this week’s featured piece.  Alot of similarities there, right?

Made entirely of platinum at the end of the Art Deco period, this sweet little ring caught my eye immediately!  I love the simplistic three-stone appeal of it.  Set with a .66 carat round diamond in the center, and flanked by a pair of single cut diamonds, it’s timeless perfection – priced at $3,500.00.

Just as my ring was waiting for me. this engaging enchantress is at Joden – waiting for you.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 26

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Check out this little cutie…  at first glance, you would probably think that this is an emerald ring.  It looks like an emerald, and it’s cut like an emerald.  So, it must be an emerald, right?  Wrong.  This tiny sparkler is actually called demantoid – a green variety of garnet.  This gem was discovered in 1868 in Russia…

Here’s a close-up view…  look at this rich color!  This yellow-green shade tends to display more fire, more sparkle than other hues.  The most unique aspect of this stone is actually held inside – it features an unusual type of inclusion; feathery curved threads resembling a horsetail.  Many people value this kind of imperfection because it verifies the pedigree of the demantoid – proving it’s from Russia.

A heavily engraved solitaire mounting is the perfect accent to this rare garnet.  Made in classic Edwardian style – this 18 karat yellow gold ring features eight claw-like platinum prongs.  They showcase the stone to perfection…  allowing enough natural light underneath.  This demantoid garnet ring truly shines for just $1500.  This piece is another example of the treasures that abound in Joe’s Special Box.
