Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

The tradition of gifting bouquets of flowers dates back thousands of years. The ancient societies of the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians used flowers to help tell a story, as decorations in ceremonies and also to show love and affection.  These traditions have remained.  In fact, they’ve been adopted all around the world.

Victorians even went so far as to use flowers to convey discreet messages. Some thoughts and feelings were sent simply by the color of the blossom… red for passion and love, pink for grace and innocence, yellow for friendship and white for purity.  More definitive feelings were emoted by specific buds… daffodils for unrequited love, violets for faithfulness, honeysuckle for devoted affection, and even basil for hatred.

One thing that all of those blossoms have in common is that in due time, they wither and eventually die. There is not a single botanical bud that can live forever. Perhaps that’s why many artisans have created breathtaking pieces of jewelry that showcase flowers.

This recent acquisition by the iconic Tiffany & Co. is one of the loveliest I have ever seen.  Made from a beautiful combination of 18-karat yellow gold and platinum, this bouquet brings together three of the same flower.  Devoid of leaves, it’s a simple trio of bursting blooms and sleek stems.  Each flower is a round cluster of twenty-eight volute-shaped petals.  Nestled deep with the center of the blossom is a singular round brilliant diamond surrounded by six sapphires.  Combined, the three diamonds offer .12 carat of shimmering sparkle while the eighteen sapphires have a total weight of .90 carat.  Small  in size, this beauty can be worn with anything.  Pair it with your favorite jeans, clasp it onto a silken scarf, or even clip it to a cable-knit beanie. There are as many options as there are flowers in a field.

If you’ve always wanted to give a bouquet of flowers that would last forever, what better way than with this charming brooch. Classically casual and stylishly chic, it’s priced at a bit more than a dozen roses… you can pin these flowers to your lapel for just $1,680.00. Make it yours by visiting our website or stopping by our 144 South Broad Street showroom.

What’s New – Volume 39

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

It’s no secret that I love daisies…  they are my very favorite flower.  From the bold yellow center to the spray of bright white petals that fan out from it.  Silly as it sounds, daisies are indeed the friendliest flower.  Not only are they great on their own, they also pair well with other flowers.

Our latest find is simply too sweet to pass up.  Made from 18-karat gold, this brooch takes the form of  miniature bouquet of flowers.  Presenting a charming trio of one daisy, one pansy and a bachelor’s button  – the variegated shades of purple, yellow and white complement each other beautifully.

Made from 18-karat green gold, the stems of each blossom are intertwined.  Cleverly textured to look authentic and real, they are held together with a double loop of 18-karat rose gold ribbon.  The true beauty of the piece is captured in the multicolored enamel that brings each flower to life.  From the tiny pink line that runs down the center of each daisy petal to the blending of violet and golden hues on the pansy – this pin is Art Nouveau perfection.

A tiny Old Mine Cut diamond marks the center of each flower – much like the cherry on top of a sundae.  Moderately priced at $1,950.00, this brooch is the ideal way to have a touch of summer in your life every day of the year.

Ring Around the Rosie

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Flowery Things

A quick glance out the window reveals a just a hint of the mounds of snow and ice that continue to accumulate.  It’s February in western Pennsylvania and this weather is common.  Living on the snowbelt is a conundrum in and of itself.  The first snow is magical…  a cleansing blanket of white that envelops everything it touches.  When I was younger, it offered the promise of sled riding, snowball fights and perhaps the elusive snow day.  But today, in the midst of yet another major storm, I find myself longing for the warmth of the sun.

With millions of white flakes falling from the sky, it seems unlikely that I’ll get my wish today.  Instead, I have soothed my soul with these cheerfully bright flowers.  The simple wreathlike design allows the gemstones to truly shine.  Constructed from 18 karat yellow gold, the brooch is a endless circle comprised of nine five-petaled blossoms.

Shown here on a neutral beige cardigan, the bold primary colors radiate joy.  There are twenty- four round brilliant diamonds not only colorless but also in shades of yellow and cinnamon; these diamonds have a combined weight of 3.00 carats.  Additionally, there are twelve emeralds weighing .85 carat, twelve crimson rubies weighing .90 carat and seven blue sapphires that weigh .65 carat.  Each color is more vibrant than the last.

Brooches are so under-utilized!  They aren’t just for cardigans or lapels (although those are still great options).  Pin this beauty on a length of ribbon to tie around your neck or wrist or clasp it onto your favorite scarf.  It’s the perfect hair accessory when you hook it onto a padded headband.  Brooches can accessorize a handbag, even a shoe or boot.  The possibilities really are endless.

Made in the 1970’s or 1980’s, this vivid vintage brooch is priced at $4,750.00.  Bring some color into your life with this bold and beautiful modern piece.
