His and Hers – Volume Eight

I love vintage wedding bands, especially pairs of bands… his and hers.  The more worn they are, the better I like them.  When a ring is worn day in and day out, it develops a patina that tells the most beautiful story.  Every scratch and scuff is a testament to a life well-lived and of course, well loved.  Most wedding bands (those with no stones) are designed for daily wear.  Constructed to endure everything from manual labor to washing dishes, these bands have much to say.  They are perhaps the most quintessential symbol of a promise, the ultimate commitment.

They say “I am yours and you are mine,” forsaking all others for as long as we both shall live.  Those words are powerful maybe even more so than “I love you.”  This pair of vintage bands may not be a visual match – but they are undoubtedly a team.

The ladies ring is made from platinum, measures just 1.7mm wide and is a size five.  It’s engraved on the inside with two sets of initials.  Although faint and very worn in spots, it appears to read “BCD to ARW 8-24-51”.  The mens band is made from 14-karat yellow gold, measures 3.7mm wide and is a size 9.  Inside, it is engraved in the reverse “ARW to BCD  8-24-51”.

Seventy-two years.  I don’t know who wore these rings.  I can see that they were treasured.  We have not refinished the surface nor did we remove the engraving from the inside…  although we could.  These rings could be high polished to a pristine shine and those precious letters could be obliterated.  I simply couldn’t bear it – to erase this love story would be a crime.

On one hand it saddens me that they’re here, in our inventory instead of being cherished by a child or grandchild.  On the other hand, I am exciting at the prospect of them having a second owner who will love them as much as the first.  We have priced them as a pair, and don’t want to separate them.  If you are his and he is yours, make these bands yours for just $575.00.

His and Hers – Volume Seven

Baubles, Bling, and Complementary Rings

Matching wedding bands… is that even a thing anymore?  To be honest, I think the last pair I sold were from an earlier edition of this blog…  His and Hers – Volume Three.  I wrote that piece over three years ago about a wonderfully romantic pair of gleaming gold bands from 1907.  I was completely smitten with the initials and dates engraved inside those antique beauties – and I was delighted when a couple of longtime customers purchased them.  I knew that Chad and Paige would treasure them as much if not more than I did.

I find myself feeling sad that I cannot think of another pair of matching bands that I have sold since then…  it’s such a romantic tradition.  It’s a visual connection – a symbol of promises made.  A close second to matching bands are rings that are complementary, like these…

While they are not exactly alike, there’s no denying the similarities.  “His” ring is made from 14-karat white gold featuring a natural star sapphire as the center stone.  Artfully sculpted into a tall cabochon, this shimmery pastel blue stone weighs approximately 20.00 carats.  Perfectly fitted into each shoulder is an engraved triangle that is set with a round diamond.  These two diamonds have a combined weight of .30 carat.

“Her” ring is made from 18-karat white gold with a cabochon oval star sapphire in the center.  More gray than blue, this silky stone weighs approximately 4.25 carats.  It is completely surrounded by a halo of single-cut diamonds.  These eighteen sparklers have a combined weight of .66 carat.  Both sapphires showcase the mystical phenomenon known as asterism.  When the small needle-like inclusions align and intersect, they produce a star.  Tilting and rotating these unusual gemstones in direct light allow the stars to truly shine.

“His” ring is moderately priced at $2,875.00 while “Her” ring is available for just $1,450.00.  Together, this dynamic duo are an excellent choice for wedding rings, anniversary rings, or just because rings.  They may not be matching, but they are ideal complements for each other.  If you’ve fallen under the spell of these glimmering stars, give us a call to make them yours.

His and Hers – Volume Six

Baubles, Bling, and Complementary Rings

Crafted over four decades apart, this unique duo of rings offer a harmonious blend of cool white gold and stark black onyx.  These rings have been a popular go-to choice for nearly 100 years.  The classic color combination of black and white is a style that appeals to a wide audience of jewelry lovers everywhere.

Many of these simplistic beauties were made near the end of the Art Deco era in the 1930’s.  This ladies ring is one such example.  With an artfully sculpted hourglass shape, the 10-karat white gold ring has an elegant allure.  The onyx center stone presents with a softly arched profile that takes up almost the entire top of the piece.  A narrow framework holds it in place with prongs located at 12, 3, 6 and 9:00 o’clock.

One tiny single-cut diamond is nestled within a diamond-shaped setting on top of the onyx stone.  Graceful lines pair with polished sophistication in this 1930’s gem, priced at just $275.00.

It’s handsome counterpart was crafted in the 1970’s.  Designed for a larger hand, this ring is made from 18-karat white gold.  Polished to a pristine shine, the wide shank meets the center section at a perpendicular angle.  The middle of this ring is set with a curved black onyx.  It is the same shape as the onyx in the ladies ring, although this one is set in an east/west orientation.

Flanking the onyx are two lines of diamonds.  Each one is set with four single-cut diamonds – these stones have a combined weight of .25 carat.  Adding a hint of sparkle to this otherwise stark ring, the diamonds are a much needed bright spot in this ring – it’s available now for $950.00.

These two ring aren’t wedding bands – and they don’t match.  However, they sing together in perfect harmony.  If you and your sweetheart are looking for an outward symbol of your connection, this pair of rings is ideal!  They’re available on our website – click on over and check them out.
