Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition – Volume 20

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and A Collector’s Things

Some words just sound luxurious…  expensive even.  Extravagance drips from each syllable.  Practically screaming sumptuous grandeur is one of my personal favorites… chandelier.  This French term shimmers with lavish opulence.  Though originally coined to describe an elaborate candelabra that is suspended from the ceiling, the word chandelier was later used to define a particularly grandiose style of earrings.  Simply put, chandelier earrings are characterized by several drops hanging from a singular central point.

Recently acquired, these upscale earrings were created by Santa Fe goldsmith, Luna Felix (peep the signature on the back).  She specializes in the ancient art of granulation, an incredibly precise process in which tiny beads of gold are used to create intricate designs.  Luna Felix works exclusively in high karat gold; these modern beauties were crafted from a stunning combination of 18 and 22-karat yellow gold.  Measuring more than 3.5 inches from top to bottom, these are the very definition of statement earrings.

Reminiscent of banana bunches growing on a tree, these sumptuous chandeliers showcase more than thirty curled leaves in a gloriously three-dimensional array.  Dangling throughout the entire bottom half of the earrings are sixty-two cultured pearls.  Measuring anywhere from one to nine millimeters, these gems of the sea are well-matched, softening the vibe of the earrings.

Substantial in both look and feel, these earrings are not for the faint of heart.  These are not earrings that you’ll put on and forget you’re wearing them.  The sheer weight pulls the earlobe down while the pearls brush against the neck.  Weighing 44.6 pennyweight (more than two ounces), Luna Felix designed these showstoppers for true jewelry lovers.  Bringing new meaning to the phrase “beauty is pain”, these chandelier earrings are priced at $5,750.00 and are the latest edition to our estate department.  Add a touch of luxury to your life today.

On The Fringe

 Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Distinctive Adornment

Upon moving to the United States at just 16, Luna Felix immediately submerged herself in the culture of New York while simultaneously bringing her unique sense of style to the city.  Her fresh perspective on fashion and accessories garnered attention and had Luna presenting her own line at retail giants like Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales.

Now recognized all over the world for pushing the edge of design, every piece of Luna Felix jewelry is a true original.  A kaleidoscope of gemstones bring bold color to high karat gold and the Old World techniques that she is known for.  The unconventional aesthetic of Luna Felix jewelry is unmistakable and unmatched.

I have been inexplicably drawn to this pendant – the shape reminds me of all things celestial.  To me, it is a sunrise, a cloud and a rainbow all at the same time.  Handcrafted from 18 and 22 karat yellow gold, the framework features a half-circle pattern made with fine wire work in relief.  This labor intensive art adds depth and dimension.

The fringe-like skirt features a graduated series of eight boulder opal fingers.  Boulder opal is an exceptional form of the gemstone in which it grows and settles into the fissures of a host rock.  Most of these extraordinary gems are from Austailia, and found on brown ironstone.  An awe-inspiring array of bright and brilliant colors abound – every shade of blue and green with bold pops of red and orange.  The unusual setting style allows you to see the gemstone, the host rock and the seam where they have become one.

For hundreds of years, our society has been formed and stretched by those rare individuals who live on the fringe.  They don’t fit in to mainstream culture, but rather push boundaries and create new ideas in all aspects of life.  Luna Felix is one such pioneer in the jewelry world.  Her avant-garde treasures are highly collectible.  Make this beauty yours for just $2,750.00.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 13

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

This week, I uncovered a pair of unique modern rings, both signed “Luna Felix” – a world renowned jeweler made famous for her abstract designs and unusual gemstone choices.

Handcrafted from a brassy 22 karat yellow gold, this triple-banded open-shank ring features one rough diamond as the center stone.  The stone is in it’s original state, just as it was when it came out of the ground.  The band of gold housing this natural beauty is decorated with an Old World technique called granulation – tiny beads of gold cover the surface of the bezel.  This Etruscan revival styled knock-out can be yours for just $1500.

If one is good, two is better…  the perfect complement for the split shank Luna Felix stunner is this exceptional enchantress.  Evoking images of ancient Egyptian pyramids, the monolithic center is crowned by a singular square sapphire.  A snake-like band of woven gold creates a flexible silken shank… priced well at $800.

While most of the pieces in Joe’s Special Box are vintage treasures, I was not surprised to find these two modern gems.  Their exquisite craftsmanship and unmatched quality make them truly special indeed.
