Joe’s Special Box – Volume 126

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Memorial Day is a time-honored tradition in this country.  It’s a day to remember all those who died in military service to the United States.  Originally called “Decoration Day”, we celebrate by placing flags and flowers on gravestones and memorials.  Veterans march in parades in local communities.  In my family, we have many veterans, including my father and my father-in-law.  We know how blessed we are that our servicemen came home.  On Monday, we will recognize and revere those who did not.

Old Glory is a patriotic pennant of red, white and blue.  The red symbolizes hardiness and valor, the white is for purity and innocence and the blue signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice. This flag is recognized all over the world as a symbol of freedom.  This star-spangled banner has been there for every moment in the history of our nation…  from our deepest sorrows to our greatest triumphs.

This ring from the late 1800’s offers much of the same symbolism.  Made in classic three stone style, the design has one stone for the past, one for the present and one for the future.  The power of three is universal.  It’s the holy trinity…  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  In addition, sapphires are believed to represent truth, sincerity and faithfulness.  Rich blue in color, this old cut natural stone weighs approximately 1.60 carats.  It is flanked by a matched pair of Old Mine Cut diamonds.  These two stones have a combined weight of 1.25 carats.  The diamond is the chosen gem of commitment and strength.

What piece of jewelry could be more perfect for Memorial Day than this late Victorian ring?  Comprised of blue sapphire and white diamonds, this ring stands for truth and commitment… the very same promises made by our flag and guaranteed by those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Today we honor all the men and women who have died in the service of the United States Military.  Proud and fierce, they stood tall to protect our great country…  the land of the free, the home of the brave.  From sea to shining sea, flags will be placed on gravestones and the patriotic words of our national anthem will be sung in every city and small town in America.

Crafted from 9 karat yellow gold in the 1860’s, this tiny ring is bursting with symbolism.  The three leaf clover in the center is a widely recognized representation of three things…  faith, love and loyalty.  Many also believe the three leaves signify the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  For me, it’s both.  The two interpretations are synonymous – one meaning the very same thing as the other.

Additionally, our nation’s colors are showcased using a red ruby, a white diamond, and a blue sapphire.  This trio of bold hues are also deeply rooted in symbolism:

Red – Hardiness and Valor

White – Purity and Innocence

Blue – Vigilance, Perseverance, and Justice

Every time I hear the opening notes of The Star Spangled Banner, I feel my heart swell with pride.  My skin prickles with goosebumps…  patriotism.  Being the daughter of an Army Veteran, each word resounds with me as does every aspect of this ring.  If you love it as much as I do, it’s available now for just $325.00.

“And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 63

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Today is Memorial Day – in honor of this momentous holiday, I’m sharing a small collection of red, white, and blue beauties from Joe’s Special Box.  Each one of these little gems was crafted at the end of the Victorian Era, and each one gleams with a vibrant colored stone.  What you may not realize is that all of the stones are imitation and 100% authentic!  It’s a common misconception that just because a piece of jewelry is antique then it must also contain natural gemstones.  However, simulated, imitation, and synthetic stones have actually been used in jewelry for nearly 200 years.

Each ring has unique attributes that appeal to me; whether it be dainty seed pearl trim, hand-carved details or the exceptional setting techniques, there is a little something that sets each one apart.  While I love all of these delicate darlings, I do have a personal favorite!  And I bet you do, too.  Here’s mine…

In pristine condition, this twin blue stone ring is everything!  I adore the milgrain-edged bezel setting and the delightful leaf detail on each shoulder.  The four pearls are the icing on the cake.  This one is available now for only $580.00.  For more information on any of the rings showcased here, give me a call at 800.747.7552 or send an email to carrie@joden.com.
