Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

“Since 1854, we at Gübelin strongly believe that true luxury

lies in the uniting of inner beauty and deep knowledge.”

Partners Mauritz Breitschmid and Eduard Jakob Gübelin were jointly managing their growing watchmaker’s shop.  More than partners, these two men were not only master and apprentice but also father and son-in-law.  In their 170-year history, the House of Gübelin has always been a family business.  Even now, six generations later, the legacy continues with Raphael and his wife, Wilvy.

The iconic design house has always been motivated by three things: expertise, authenticity and inspiration.  Extensive training, education and deep passion guide every hand and heart of the experts at Gübelin.  Just as essential to the success of this Swiss House is authenticity.  They believe in doing everything the right way; they continue to celebrate the time-honored craft of fine jewelry making.  Anchoring both the expertise and authenticity of this legendary company is a deeply rooted sense of inspiration.  Each member of the Gübelin family is immensely passionate about making beautiful things.

A recent acquisition, this 18-karat yellow gold bracelet immediately caught my eye.  At a glance, it seems simple.  However, a closer inspection reveals the artistry that went into the making of this Mid Century Modern vision.  Measuring a fraction over seven inches, the piece flexes and moves beautifully.  Twenty-eight individual links comprise the length, alternately set with deep red rubies and blue-green turquoise.

Each gem-set link is artfully paired with a textured gold link.  Contoured and ribbed, these gold links stand in stark contrast to their bold colored-stone partners.  Trios of rubies and turquoise are enveloped with a border of twisted gold braid.  Ruby is the signature stone of the House of Gübelin.  Often associated with the romantic notions of love and passion, rubies are cleverly incorporated into each piece of precious jewelry.  Forty-two round rubies offer a combined weight of approximately 1.25 carats.  Balancing them out are forty-two cabochon turquoise.  Skillfully hidden into the bracelet is a box clasp; hand-etched onto the back of the clasp is a serial number and just one word – Gübelin.

On the wrist, this bracelet is effortless.  It moves with the body and feels good on.  Classic elegance pairs with vintage flair; the vibe is timeless and chic.  The quality the House of Gübelin is synonymous with is evident in the wear-ability and weighty feel of the bracelet.  Today, in the era of fast fashion and throw-away culture, a true piece of heirloom-quality fine jewelry stands alone.  Moderately priced at $4500.00, it’s the latest addition to our estate department.

Hot or Not – Volume 14

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Curious Things

So many things trend… cars, clothes, food, places and even things like patterns and shapes.  Dating all the way back to the Neolithic Era is a simple yet classic zigzag figure.  Taking the shape of a repeating “V”, the chevron is created by two diagonal stripes meeting at an angle.  It appeared on pottery and petrographs, and was believed to symbolize infinity and the eternal flow of life.

When adorning shields and coats of arms, the chevron represented the roofs of houses; it signified security and the meaning of home.  Later, during the Renaissance, this symmetrical design became an integral and important part of military badges.  In the 18th century, the chevron was incorporated into military uniforms and is still utilized to this day.

By the 1970’s, this symmetrical jagged line represented energy and movement.  It took over the design world, decorating textiles that dominated the world of fashion and interior design.  The chevron even made an appearance in the jewelry world – offering an ideal bold pattern for pieces like this bangle bracelet.

Made from 14-karat yellow gold, this unique bauble is cushion-shaped with a hinged opening on the side. The bottom portion of the bracelet is smooth, high-polished gold.  The top half of the bangle takes the shape of a repeating chevron.  Shown from the side, another Mid Century Modern element can be appreciated…  a ribbed texture that resembles treebark.  Adding a touch of color are twelve natural blue sapphires.  These round gems have a combined weight of 1.00 carat.  Interspersed with the sapphires are thirteen round brilliant diamonds that also offer 1.00 carat of scintillating sparkle.

The unusual shape of the bangle keeps the gem-set portion upright on the wrist while also remaining comfortable to wear.  Sport this bracelet as a symbol of your infinite sense of style or perhaps the ever-changing flow of your life.  Personally, I’m more than a little smitten with this beauty, but I can’t help but wonder what you think.  Is this  talisman from the Mid Century Modern era hot or not?   Available now for just $1,925.00, call us to make it yours.

Mid Century Magic

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and 1960’s Things

I’m constantly intrigued by my ever-changing style…  it continues to evolve.  Even after decades of working in the jewelry industry, I’m still learning and discovering things that I’ve never seen before.  Recently, I’ve been drawn to the Mid Century Modern era.  The pieces offer sculptural sophistication combined with avant-garde whimsy in the most magical way.

The passion for yellow gold continues to climb, even in small little towns like mine.  Say good-bye to the dainty accessories and overtly casual apparel from the COVID era.  Today’s look brings chunkier statement pieces together with an increasingly polished and upscale wardrobe.  For the past few months, I have been amping up our showcases with abstract brooches, bold yet refined earrings, and vintage layout diamond necklaces….  all in yellow gold, of course.

I loved this unique link bracelet the moment I saw it.  The description on the little bag reads “cone link bracelet” and while that may not be the most enticing characterization, it is accurate.  Sixteen conical (or bell-shaped) links form the arms of this piece, with their flared ends facing the center.

Measuring just over an inch in length, the halfway point highlights a 14-karat white gold diamond segment.  Pavé-set with twenty-six round brilliant diamonds, this section shines with 1.00 carat of diamonds.  With an average color of G and an average clarity grade of VS2-SI1, these diamonds are great quality.

The clasp is cleverly hidden within the two end links and snaps with a satisfying click.  There is a secondary fold-under latch that doubly ensures the safety of the closure.  Measuring 6.5 inches in length, this bracelet is currently fitted for a smaller wrist.  This 1960’s beauty pairs equally as well with barrel leg jeans as it does with a sleek tailored blazer and pencil skirt.

Bring the bling into 2024 with the most perfect Mid Century Modern diamond bracelet available exclusively at Joden Jewelers for just $2,000.00.  This wrist candy will be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.
