Baubles, Bling and the Sweetest Ring
Just last week, I was lamenting about the seemingly endless array of platinum diamond rings. I may have mentioned that it becomes increasingly more challenging to be inspired to write about them even though our followers go crazy over each and every one.
It takes something special to wow me. There has to be a unique quality or an unusual design element that catches my eye. This week’s piece caught my eye for two reasons…
- First, it’s the overall size of the ring. Not the finger size (it measures a size 6.75) but the petite profile of this platinum beauty. Some are drawn to large diamonds… the bigger, the better. I happen to be a sucker for tiny treasures like this one. Centering on an Old European cut diamond center that weighs just .17 carat, this ring is too sweet. There are an additional four single-cut diamonds that have a combined weight of .05 carat. So… the final diamond weight of the entire ring is less than a quarter carat. ♥
- And second, I am completely blown away by the condition of the ring. It truly looks as though it has never been worn. Every prong is intact, each tiny milgrain bead is precise and crisp. The platinum shank has not narrowed over time, but rather appears to be brand new.
Priced at just $925, this ring is a real find. The ring itself is Mid Century Modern, made in the 1950’s while the diamond is a bit older. Most Old European Cut stones were cut between 1890-1930. It makes me wonder how these two came to be one. It could have been a remount situation. Or perhaps it’s simply a happy accident. No matter how it happened, I for one am glad that it did!
